Subconscious Abstract

This is a piece of scrap paper that I was using to test out my inks on. I was not at any point trying to make something out of this, but it accidentally turned out to look like abstract art. To me, it looks like a pirate ship sailing through the water. What do you see?

For the first time ever, I'm trying out a traditional paintbrush with ink technique. I'm having a lot of fun so far. I figured I'll do the interior of this book that way and add digital color. After years of strictly digital, it feels good to be more connected to what I'm working on, plus I'll have a physical piece to show for it afterward.

Portrait of Adalynn at Two Years Old

For the past few years, I’ve been drawing a portrait of my niece every Christmas. I think they would be cool for her to have and look back at one day, and it’s a good way to force myself to brush up on pencil sketching as well. The most recent drawing was a bit late, and she probably doesn’t look quite like this anymore because she’s growing fast, but hopefully it captures what she looked like at the time. I wanted to use a photo that, to me, represents what it’s like to be two.
