Shaunice

I was asked by the New York State Department of Health to submit a sketch for one of their new campaigns focusing on HIV/AIDS awareness. The character is a transgender woman who contracted HIV as a teen and suffers from depression because she conceals her identity. She’s only her true self when she goes out late at night with friends. Usually I say no to free speculative (or “spec”) work, but this seemed like a good cause and a worthwhile gig if they like the sketch, so I gave it a shot.

Portrait of Adalynn at Two Years Old

For the past few years, I’ve been drawing a portrait of my niece every Christmas. I think they would be cool for her to have and look back at one day, and it’s a good way to force myself to brush up on pencil sketching as well. The most recent drawing was a bit late, and she probably doesn’t look quite like this anymore because she’s growing fast, but hopefully it captures what she looked like at the time. I wanted to use a photo that, to me, represents what it’s like to be two.

Robot Children's Book

Starting a new children's book about a robot who works as a waiter and dreams of being an actor. This is a look at the character design process. Sometimes the design will be nailed in the first try, other times it will take a while. The bottom right is the one that will be used. As of now, it's unnamed. Two names already came and went and another is being brainstormed.

Lady of the Mushrooms - Sketches

I’ve been experimenting with a style that’s not my usual lately, and here are some sketches from part of a larger upcoming piece called “Lady of the Mushrooms.” It's inspired by my girlfriend, her love of eating mushrooms, and pinup art.

Creatures

Some creature doodles/designs. I posted a couple of these before but here they are all together with a new one in there as well.

Collab

My girlfriend is an amazing artist and she drew the two of us and I colored it.

Bigfoot Character Concepts

I recently found these early concept drawings of Bigfoot, which would later be used as the main character for the “Bigfoot’s Small Feet” children’s book.

It was pretty cool to rediscover the origins of the thing that I worked on for so long.

The book was recently completed, and the full artwork can be viewed here! http://www.jordanrace.com/bigfoots-small-feet/

Silent But Deadly

At last, I’ve reached the final page of the children’s book I’ve been working on for over a year, “Bigfoot’s Small Feet”. Now all I have to do is color a few and the illustrations are all done.

(SBD = silent but deadly)
